How to choose and check your company name.

Name requirements

• Must end with "Limited" or "Ltd"
• Must not be identical to an existing company
• Must not contain restricted words without permission
• Must not be offensive

Checking availability

We automatically check name availability with Companies House when you enter your preferred name.

Restricted words

Some words require special permission, such as: Bank, Insurance, Royal, British.
